SHEKOU SKY-LINK by Suthiwat Yanawiboot

The Shekou Ferry Terminal area consists of the subway station, bus station, taxi station, office, factory, park, hotel, villa, condominium. The ferry terminal itself acts as a cross-boundary hub that connects people between Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai, and is also located as a boundary between the residential area and industrial area. Based on the atmosphere and existing condition around the terminal, there should be an intervention that accommodates and gathers all kind of people.

Shekou Sky-link is designed to allow an interaction between arrival and departure passengers. The elevated circulation links the subway station, residential area and ferry terminal together with a continuous pedestrian pavement. The space inside the intervention is separated by wooden screened panels where people can feel the sense of "Portal" when they change from one space to another. The interior of the concert hall that is located in the center of the intervention is transformative by the movable wall that affects the number of seats and the volume inside.

Shekou Ferry Terminal, one of the portals to Mainland China, is a cross-boundary port between Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai.  It is located between the industrial and residential zones of Shekou, and surrounded by Offices, Hotels, Factories, Commercial centers, Tourist spots, Parks and Mass Transit Stations. Connecting these types of area with the ferry terminal will accommodate the network of transferring system, and create a vibrant atmosphere, a space where Arrival and Departure passengers, Locals and Tourists,  can interact with each other.

Inspired by the studies of Precedents from Phase 01, about Relationship between Performer and  Audience in spatial terms (stage and seat).

In this Phase, Redefining Performance, I came up with rules for participants to transform the space through activity represented as a performance.

Consequently, participants will experience the Different Perceptions and Relationships of Space and Body.
